Sevilla analysis

My Q.P.R. won the second game against Anji in the Europa League and is about to meet with one of the tournament favourites – Sevilla. I am really scared because of their form and attacking strength. Just look at the top part of La Liga table; Barcelona and Real Madrid have the serious competitor this season:

Sevilla

Sevilla in Champions League

Sevilla was surprizingly out of the Champions League. 1:4 home defeat from Twente became a crucial result. It’s also interesting that Sevilla scored and conceded more goals than any other team in the group.

Our Spanish opponent has the following matches in Europe:

Short squad analysis

Team report informed that Sevilla’s best area is attack. Weakness: they have decent (but quite weak for the club level) goalkeeper Pantilimon. Poor defense and excellent midfield.

Team report

Sevilla coach Marcelo Bielsa prefers very attacking formation 3-4-3:

Alvaro Negredo (SC) – Best Sevilla player!

Stats[5]

Please compare shot statistics of Negredo and Rodriguez, you will see the guys are equally brilliant in the season!

Rodriguez injury

Though Sevilla has also some problems. Jesus Navas and Frederik Kanoute are fortunatelly injured.

Andriy Yarmolenko – Ukrainian star

Stats

Their new attacker Yarmolenko is explosive and can be very dangerous for my defense.

Can’t wait to start the first match against Sevilla!

  2. Good analysis on Sevilla. I like getting the team report, though it is important to note that the star ratings are RELATIVE TO THEIR TEAM, not your own.

This means a 3-Star player in their team might be better than a 3-Star player in your own (or vice-versa). Get a scout report on one to find out if this is the case.

Anyway has this made you re-think your tactical approach to this game?

    • Well, of course I understand the principle of stars relativity in team reports.

The analysis didn’t change my tactical approach much. I decided to select more defensive players on the same positions than usually.
